Engineering a New World

Something Can Be Done About It

Video Codec Comparisons: Flickr / Youtube / Vimeo

I went out for a mountain bike ride yesterday, and took a video that I intended to share, so as to show everyone how wonderful the fall colors look here in Maryland. But, unfortunately, neither Flickr nor Youtube was able to come close to reproducing the video my phone took with anything less than a COMPLETELY DISTRACTING level of blocky encoding artifacts.

I figured I’d offer my comparison of Youtube, Flickr & Vimeo here to demonstrate the need for a higher-quality video hosting option.  Anyone know of one?

Here is the original file (~70MB) taken with my Nokia Lumia 1020.
