Scientology Human Rights Program — Human Rights Hero Awards

Is artistic expression a human right?

The
creator of the famous “LA Freeway Kids” mural, Ms. Glenna Boltuch
Avila, Director of the CalArts Community Arts Partnership Program (CAP)
was presented with the first annual Los Angeles MLK Human Rights Hero
Award for enabling inner city youth to exercise their right to artistic
expression through art education.

According to Michelle Seward, US President of the International Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance,
it absolutely is. So much so, that the recipient of the first annual
Los Angeles Country Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Hero Award was
Glenna Boltuch Avila, fine artist and Director of the CalArts Community Arts Partnership Program (CAP) for her work to enable inner city youth to exercise their right to artistic expression through art education.

Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:

Everyone has the right to freedom of
opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions
without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and
ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

The Church of Scientology vigorously pursures human rights for all – as without basic human rights, one can’t pursue ones own goals or religious beliefs — which is a fundamental right for all.
